Bangkok Refugee Center
The Bangkok Refugee Centre is an Implementing Partner of the UNHCR
Brief Background Knowledge:
- Political unrest and violence drives refugees to flee their homes, seeking safety in foreign countries. Some have time to prepare for their journey, but others are forced to leave their country suddenly, and without warning.
- Until asylum seekers are classified as refugees, they have very limited access to help. Only a handful of organizations provide help to asylum seekers, and without them, asylum seekers are left to fend for themselves.
- A refugee can be anyone! They are all united by their vulnerability and are unable to work or pursue their goals. They are left hoping and waiting for resettlement so they can continue their lives.
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Bangkok Refugee Center (BRC) and meeting Ms.Dorothy Laughton, who is the Education Project Officer.
Over the next couple of months Wells International Shcool plans to work more with the BRC, so both communities will benefit (pls. watch this space! . In the meantime enjoy some of the pictures below.
